Practice makes perfect.

Many people have told me that I have a 'talent' for drawing, but this 'talent' that they claim I have is nothing more than high interest, motivation and practice.
These people have also told me that, even if they started drawing now, they will never become as 'good' as me. But I have seen artists who achieved a level I can only dream of, in only a few years.

I envy them, but they motivate me to keep drawing.

Anyway, I wanted to tell you how I started drawing and I came up with that story because I had been going through some of my old drawings... and they suck.
Either the people who praised me were blind, or they were just being nice to me. ...I believe it's the latter
HA! I'm so talented!
I don't even remember what age I was when I drew this, I think around 6 or 7. The only thing I would draw are 'pretty' girls, girly guys, ballerina's and mermaids.
Over the years, I became a little more knowledgeable about the human anatomy and I started to draw more with/from reference. I wasn't even drawing intensively every day, just whenever I wanted to and had the time.

Throwing in random old drawings, because I can.
After many years I wanted to enroll in my current uni (to study Game Design as a visual artist), one of the intake assignments was to draw a landscape.
To be honest, this 6-hour-pencil-drawing-drawn-from-life is so far one of my best drawings ever made. It's also the drawing that got me accepted into that uni, so I'm proud to show you.
My next posts won't feature any more old drawings that I've already uploaded on Deviant Art, but if you really REALLY want to see them, click here

This post was just to introduce you to my current style that I'm trying to get rid of, because manga/anime is too mainsteam. And I apologize for the fact that I might have horrified you with the very first image I posted here. It probably wasn't what you expected from me. ^^

Feeding the red fish only is harder than I thought..

  1. I am curious what kind of drawings will appear in the future. love the idea of showing a learning curve to people regarding the quick judgment passed onto people claiming they have talent. Illustrating that hard work more than talent is the solution.

    1. Thanks! I get pissed off nowadays when I hear people say "I wish I could *insert skill*, but I can't." As if wishing really hard will make that skill come to us. We are not born with these skills, we work for them. I just wanted to mention that before I started posting my other stuff. ^^
I have to say though, I used to be one of those people. I even stopped drawing for two years after I compared myself with some great artists.. I thought I would never be able to reach that level, so I might as well stop ^^' Now they've become my goal, inspiration and motivation.
